I have a lighter story about conversations that transcend language. One of my favorite activities with kids who are about 1 year old is to have a conversation with them using made up sounds, but with the intonations we use in conversations. We can go on for at least 10 minutes. In these conversations we sometimes intone humor and we both laugh, sometimes questions where one of us sounds as if asking a series of questions and the other sounds as if answering, and sometimes fake anger where one of us sounds as if we are angry. And then we do it all again.
One of the lessons from this is that kids, in fact all of us, pick up so much more from talking than the actual words. When we pay attention.
Somehow, we learn not to pay attention to these signs, but they are right there when we choose to notice them. Shame on all those people for not noticing yours.
So sorry to hear about the trauma you experienced in college. Being unheard and unseen like that by your administrators was terrible.

Speaking to your assault, you're not safe and none of us are. Even today these crimes are not taken seriously or are buried as much as possible.
